Agartala, February 13, 2026: In a significant step towards modernising power distribution and enhancing consumer awareness, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited is observing “Smart Meter Pakhwada” across the state as part of a nationwide initiative. The fortnight-long awareness drive began on February 9 and will continue till February 23, 2026, with the objective of familiarising electricity consumers with the benefits and functioning of smart meters.
Officials of the corporation said the campaign aims to simplify the understanding of smart meter technology and highlight how it makes power services more transparent, efficient and consumer-friendly. Smart meters are designed to ensure hassle-free billing, minimise confusion over electricity charges and enable consumers to closely monitor and manage their power consumption.

As part of the programme, awareness camps are being organised at district, Nagar Panchayat and Gram Panchayat levels. Door-to-door and community-based outreach initiatives are also underway to directly connect with consumers. Between February 9 and February 13, as many as 31 awareness camps were conducted across the state. West Tripura topped the list with 10 camps, followed by Gomati with eight. South Tripura and North Tripura held four camps each, Sepahijala and Khowai organised two camps each, while Dhalai hosted one camp.
The camps feature interactive sessions and open discussions, allowing consumers to engage directly with officials and seek clarifications on smart meters. Informative leaflets are being distributed, and live demonstrations are being conducted to explain real-time energy consumption tracking and automated billing features.

Experts associated with the campaign noted that smart meters help curb unnecessary power wastage by enabling instant monitoring of usage. Automated billing significantly reduces errors and eliminates inflated or incorrect bills, ensuring fairness and transparency.
To further assist consumers, help desks and kiosks have been set up at key public locations, where officials demonstrate the use of consumer mobile applications for monitoring electricity usage and estimating bills in advance.
The corporation has urged all electricity consumers to actively participate in the awareness programmes, stating that smart meters represent not just a technological upgrade but a vital step towards building a reliable, efficient and future-ready power distribution system in Tripura.
