Agartala, February 14, 2026: Senior BJP leader and acting Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Ramprasad Paul, on Saturday met BJP national general secretary (organization) BL Santosh at the party headquarters in New Delhi.

While officially described as a courtesy call, the meeting carries political weight given the ongoing discussions over leadership roles in the northeastern state.

Paul later wrote on Facebook: “Today, I met the BJP’s national general secretary (organization) BL Santosh in the party headquarters in New Delhi. During the meeting, a fruitful discussion on organizational and political issues were discussed. His advice will be a guiding force for me.”

The timing of the meeting is significant as the Assembly prepares for its upcoming Budget session. Following the death of Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, Paul has been presiding as in-charge Speaker. His bid to become the full-fledged Speaker, however, faces resistance from influential party leaders.

Earlier, BJP state president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee also met Santosh in New Delhi to discuss organizational matters. Notably, he refrained from commenting on the appointment of a permanent state unit president.
