Guwahati, Feb 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the Congress of neglecting the Northeast during its rule, asserting that the BJP-led government considers the region as “Ashtalakshmi,” symbolizing eight forms of prosperity.
Speaking at a rally in Assam, his first visit to the Northeast since the recent Union Budget, Modi highlighted the government’s focus on infrastructure development, stating that the region is now a priority for economic growth. He cited ongoing projects, including advanced highways, as examples of the government’s initiatives.
Modi also paid tribute to security personnel on the anniversary of the Pulwama terror attack, referring to India’s response through Operation Sindoor.
He lauded BJP workers in Assam, calling their contribution “the greatest honour of my life,” and offered respects to Maa Adi Shakti and Maa Kamakhya. Assam is scheduled to hold assembly elections in the first half of 2026.
