Agartala, February 17, 2026: Uttarakhand Police has submitted a 649-page chargesheet against five accused in the murder of Tripura student Angel Chakma. Among those charged, two are minors. Authorities confirmed that preparations are underway to issue a Red Corner Notice through Interpol to apprehend the prime accused, who remains absconding.

Police sources said that a Blue Corner Notice had earlier been issued to trace the main accused. Investigators suspect he has fled to neighboring Nepal.

The incident occurred on December 9, 2025, in Dehradun’s Selakui area, outside a liquor shop. Angel and his brother Michael were allegedly subjected to ethnic slurs and verbal abuse by a group of men. Angel responded calmly, but tensions escalated, leading to a violent assault. Angel sustained severe injuries while Michael was also hurt. Michael rushed his brother to a local hospital, where Angel battled for life for 14 days before succumbing to his injuries.

Following Michael Chakma’s complaint on December 12, police registered a case. Five accused, including two minors, were arrested on December 14. The prime suspect, identified as Yagya Raj, is believed to have escaped to Nepal. Two police teams have been dispatched to track him, and a reward of ₹25,000 has been announced for information leading to his arrest.

Initially, charges were filed under sections related to assault and criminal intimidation. After Angel’s death, charges of murder and criminal conspiracy were added. CCTV footage confirmed the involvement of six individuals; five are in custody, while Yagya Raj remains at large.

Despite multiple search operations along the border, the prime accused has not been traced. Vikashnagar Circle Officer Bhaskar Lal stated that the chargesheet against the five accused was filed in court on February 8. A non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued against Yagya Raj and forwarded to the Nepal Embassy. Police said efforts are ongoing, and a Red Corner Notice will be issued soon to secure his arrest.
