Guwahati, Feb 17: Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Tuesday presented a ₹62,294.78 crore interim budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the state assembly, just months ahead of the state elections.

Describing it as her last budget before the polls, Neog sought a vote on account for grants totaling ₹62,29,478.30 lakh for the initial months of FY 2026-27, allowing the government to maintain normal operations until the full budget is approved.

Highlighting Assam’s economic growth, she cited Reserve Bank of India data, noting that the state’s Gross State Domestic Product at constant prices grew 45% from FY 2019-20 to FY 2024-25, surpassing the national average of 29%.

Neog also projected that Assam is on track to achieve a ₹10 lakh crore economy by 2028, exceeding the earlier 2030 target. She added that per capita income more than doubled over five years, rising 113% to ₹1,85,429 in 2025-26 from ₹86,947 in 2020-21.
