The Assam Rifles Open Volleyball Championship 2026 concluded today at Komlakhong, located along the scenic banks of Loktak Lake, with a strong message of social harmony and youth empowerment.
Organised under Operation Sadbhavana (Goodwill), the championship aimed to promote unity, peace, and normalcy in Manipur by using sports as a platform to bridge social and ethnic divides. The initiative sought to bring together diverse communities—including Meitei and Pangal groups—onto a common platform, fostering mutual trust and understanding amid prevailing security challenges in the state.
A total of 12 teams from Imphal West and Kakching districts participated in the tournament, showcasing competitive spirit and sportsmanship. The event was designed not only to encourage unity and social cohesion but also to identify emerging talent and strengthen grassroots sports development. By offering structured competition beyond village-level matches, the championship provided valuable exposure to young athletes from remote and border areas.
The final match was played between Team BYDA and ADC A Team in a closely contested encounter. ADC A Team emerged as the champions of the tournament.
The closing ceremony also featured a vibrant group dance performance by students of Model School, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Manipur and adding colour to the occasion.
The championship further aimed at strengthening civil-military relations by serving as a people-centric outreach initiative. Through interaction with the local population in a non-combat and celebratory setting, the Assam Rifles—known as the “Sentinels of the Northeast”—reinforced bonds with civilians, bridged communication gaps, and fostered long-term goodwill.
With youth being a vital pillar of society, the tournament was also designed to steer young people away from negative influences such as drug abuse and vulnerability to insurgency by encouraging discipline, teamwork, and physical fitness.
