Agartala, February 19, 2026: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), under the Government of India, has reported significant success in helping citizens of Tripura trace and recover lost or stolen mobile handsets through its Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, operated under the Sanchar Saathi initiative. The system has also strengthened measures against the misuse of such devices.

Since the implementation of CEIR services in the state, a large number of users have registered complaints to block, trace, and recover their mobile phones. As of February 17, 2026, a total of 3,054 mobile handsets were reported lost or stolen on Tripura’s CEIR portal. Out of these, 518 devices have been successfully identified and recovered, reflecting the growing effectiveness of the system and improved coordination among stakeholders.

Citizens using the CEIR portal can block their lost or stolen mobile phones to prevent misuse, track and recover devices if they are reactivated on any telecom network, and easily unblock recovered handsets through the same platform.

The success of CEIR in Tripura has been made possible through active cooperation between telecom service providers (TSPs), state law enforcement agencies, and increased public awareness of digital services offered by the DoT.

Beyond protecting consumer interests, the CEIR system plays a crucial role in curbing mobile-related cybercrime, discouraging illegal handset trade, and enhancing national digital security. Citizens are urged to immediately report lost or stolen mobile phones via the official portal: https://www.ceir.gov.in.

The Department of Telecommunications reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and secure telecom services for citizens while expanding digital public services across the country.
