Guwahati, Assam, Feb 20: The new integrated terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati will commence operations from February 22, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday.

The terminal was inaugurated on December 20 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on X, the Chief Minister described the development as a major transformation in the state’s aviation infrastructure, stating that the project reflects a vision for improved connectivity and growth in Assam.

According to officials, domestic and international flight operations are expected to gradually shift to the new facility by March. The existing terminal is planned to be repurposed as a dedicated cargo hub once the transition is completed.

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore, the Integrated Terminal-2 building has been designed to handle around 13.1 million passengers annually. The upgraded infrastructure aims to enhance passenger capacity and improve overall airport services.

The airport is named after Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bardoloi. An 80-foot statue honouring Bardoloi was also unveiled outside the new terminal during the inauguration ceremony.
