BJP MLA from Thanlon Assembly Constituency, Vungzagin Valte, passed away this evening following a prolonged medical battle stemming from injuries he sustained during the May 2023 violence in Imphal.

Valte, a Kuki-Zo legislator, had suffered grievous injuries amid the outbreak of violence in the state in May 2023.

He had undergone extensive treatment in New Delhi and was later staying in Churachandpur after being discharged.
On February 7, his health condition suddenly deteriorated, prompting his immediate admission to the ICU at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital for stabilisation. In view of the seriousness of his condition, he was airlifted on February 8 from Imphal to Medanta – The Medicity in Gurugram for advanced treatment.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh closely monitored Valte’s health condition through the night and arranged for an advanced life-support ambulance along with a team of doctors from Imphal to be dispatched to Churachandpur around midnight to facilitate his transfer.

Despite sustained medical efforts, Valte succumbed to his condition this evening. His passing has triggered an outpouring of grief from political leaders, party workers, and supporters across the state.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements are awaited.
