Guwahati, Feb 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the Annual Day parade of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as the chief guest in Guwahati on Saturday, marking the first time the event has been hosted in the Northeast region.
The parade was held at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, where senior officials and personnel of the force participated in ceremonial proceedings.
During the visit, Shah also laid the foundation stone for a new campus of the 10th Assam Police Battalion at Kachutoli in Sonapur. The project, estimated to cost Rs 260 crore, will be developed across 347 acres of land that authorities said had been cleared of encroachments over the past two years. The battalion will function under the Assam Police.
The Home Minister arrived in Assam on Friday night after attending official programmes in Agartala, including a Rajbhasha Sammelan and the launch of the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme. He also addressed a public meeting in Cachar district earlier during the visit.
This marks Shah’s third visit to poll-bound Assam since December 29, as the Bharatiya Janata Party prepares for the upcoming 126-member Assembly elections scheduled to be held during March–April.
