Agartala, February 23, 2026: In a swift overnight operation, Tripura Police rescued two employees of Oil India Limited who were allegedly abducted from a drilling site in Gomati district late Saturday night.

According to Karbook Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gamanjoy Reang, unidentified miscreants stormed the Devtamura Drilling Centre under Silachari Police Station and forcibly took away the officials using two vehicles.

“Upon receiving the alert, the officer-in-charge immediately mobilized forces and informed adjoining police stations. Barricades were set up across the district, and coordination was established with South District Police as the suspects attempted to flee in that direction,” Reang said.

Faced with intensified security checks, the abductors reportedly abandoned the vehicle near Bagafa in South District, leaving the two officials behind. Police teams rescued them unharmed and escorted them to safety. The victims were identified as Bhuban Chandra Joshi, an engineer, and Amit Kumar, a floor man with Oil India Limited.

A case has been registered, and a search operation is underway to trace those involved in the kidnapping attempt.

Reacting to the incident, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy praised the police for their “swift, brave, and successful” action. “I extend heartfelt gratitude to the Tripura Police and Gomati District Police for ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted employees,” he said.
