Guwahati, Feb 23: Assamese filmmaker Rima Das’s coming-of-age drama Not a Hero has received a Special Mention Award from the Children’s Jury in the Generation Kplus section at the Berlin International Film Festival, recognising the film’s portrayal of childhood experiences and personal growth.

The film had its world premiere on February 14 during the festival, which was held from February 12 to 22, 2026, in Berlin. Producers Flying River Films announced the achievement through their official social media platforms, expressing gratitude to the jury, the Generation team and audiences for their response to the film.

In their statement, the producers described the recognition as special for a story centred on children, their aspirations and their ability to make independent choices.

Das returns to the Berlin festival’s Generation section after gaining international recognition with her earlier feature Village Rockstars, which was selected as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards in 2019.

Not a Hero follows the journey of 11-year-old Mivan as he moves between urban and rural environments, exploring themes of identity, emotional growth and belonging. Speaking to Variety, Das said the film reflects how children experience the world without filters, highlighting a character shaped by listening, learning and lived emotions rather than dramatic transformation.

The recognition adds to the growing international presence of Assamese cinema at major global film platforms.
