Agartala, February 23, 2026: In a bid to empower self-help groups and expand income opportunities, eight participants from South Tripura’s Rajnagar RD Block undertook a learning tour to Kollam, Kerala — a district celebrated for its cashew processing expertise.

The programme, designed to strengthen livelihood opportunities and encourage women-led enterprises in Tripura, offered hands-on learning at self-help group (SHG)-run cashew processing units. Participants observed the entire production cycle — from raw nut processing to finished products — and studied the use of machinery for roasting, shelling, peeling, and grading. Training also covered quality control and hygienic practices vital for maintaining industry standards.

Beyond technical know-how, the visit introduced strategies for enterprise management, market linkages, and value addition techniques such as modern packaging methods to enhance competitiveness.

Officials highlighted that the insights gained will help empower SHGs in Rajnagar RD Block, enabling them to adopt improved practices and expand income-generating activities. The initiative also underscored cashew processing as a sustainable livelihood option, particularly for women entrepreneurs.

By connecting grassroots groups in Tripura with successful models in Kerala, the exposure visit is expected to pave the way for replicating best practices and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
