Agartala, February 23, 2026: After a prolonged suspension, all types of visa issuance activities have finally resumed from Monday at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, bringing much-needed relief to common people of both India and Bangladesh.
It may be recalled that all visa and consular services at the High Commission office were suspended indefinitely on December 23, 2025, citing security reasons. The sudden closure had severely disrupted cross-border travel, leaving hundreds of applicants in distress. Families with relatives on either side of the border faced extreme hardship, with many forced to cancel visits for medical needs, family ceremonies, and other urgent personal reasons.
Residents from various parts of Tripura, particularly Agartala, largely depend on this High Commission for travel to Bangladesh. During the suspension period, anxiety mounted among applicants as uncertainty loomed large. “I had to cancel my sister’s wedding visit. We were waiting every day for some positive news,” said one applicant, echoing the sentiments of many.
With the resumption of visa services on Monday, a sense of relief was clearly visible. Since early morning, a large number of applicants gathered at the High Commission premises. Officials confirmed that visa processing has restarted as per routine norms after thorough verification of required documents. “Everything is being done systematically, and applicants are cooperating,” an official source said.
Informed circles believe that the restoration of visa services is a significant step, considering the deep-rooted social, cultural, and familial ties between the two neighboring nations. Many have expressed hope that this move will not only ease personal hardships but also further strengthen mutual communication, people-to-people contact, and bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh.
