Aizawl, Feb 24: Mizoram is gearing up for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls from April to June 2026, marking the state’s first comprehensive voter list overhaul since 2004. The initiative, led by the Election Commission of India (ECI) across 22 states and union territories, aims to remove ineligible entries and add new voters through a structured, time-bound process.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii said preparations are almost complete, with training concluded for District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, and Booth Level Officers in all districts. Enumeration forms have also been procured.

Following ECI guidelines, polling stations have been rationalized to cap voters at 1,200 per booth, improving access in both urban and remote areas. “We’ve been preparing for three months and are highly ready for the April-June exercise,” Rothangpuii told PTI.

Mizoram’s electorate has increased from 5.59 lakh in 2004 to 8.74 lakh today, with polling stations rising from 795 to 1,353 across 40 assembly constituencies.

To ensure transparency, a sensitization meeting with political parties is scheduled for February 27, where officials will share the SIR roadmap and request parties to appoint Booth Level Agents at every station. “The house-to-house verification is a huge task for BLOs—we need parties’ support to ensure every eligible voter is accurately recorded,” Rothangpuii added.

Details of the revision have been loaded into ERONET’s staging database, the nationwide electoral roll system.
