The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has blocked five online streaming platforms; MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel and Jugnu for allegedly hosting obscene content. The move, carried out under the Information Technology Act and the IT Rules, 2021, follows multiple grievances received against the platforms and was executed after what officials described as due procedure.
This is not the first such action by the Centre. In July 2025, the MIB ordered the blocking of 25 OTT platforms, including Ullu, ALTT, Big Shots App, NeonX VIP, and Desiflix, for allegedly streaming obscene, vulgar, and pornographic material. Earlier, in February 2025, the Ministry had issued an advisory urging OTT platforms to comply with applicable laws, but officials noted that many continued to host content featuring nudity, sexual innuendos, and pornographic visuals with little or no storyline.
Authorities have also alleged that several platforms previously blocked in March 2024 resumed operations by launching new domains, with some re-uploading content that had been temporarily removed. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had flagged Ullu and ALTT in 2024 for alleged violations.
None of the five newly blocked platforms have issued a public statement so far. The government has reiterated its stance that OTT platforms must adhere to Indian laws and ensure that content does not cross into obscenity or exploitation.
