Guwahati, Feb 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held talks with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Iwao Horii, focusing on policy support, improved connectivity, and developing a robust semiconductor ecosystem around the Tata OSAT facility in Jagiroad.”

He noted that the minister’s trip to Guwahati, shortly after Japan’s new government took office, underscores Assam’s rising role in the India-Japan strategic partnership.

Horii expressed keen interest from Japanese firms in fostering a vibrant semiconductor hub near the Tata plant, alongside skilling opportunities for Assamese youth in cutting-edge technologies and Japanese language.

Japan’s Ambassador to India, Keiichi Ono, accompanied the minister. The Chief Minister’s Office highlighted discussions on leveraging Act East Policy benefits to make Assam a prime investment destination.
