Manipur filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi’s acceptance speech following her film Boong’s win at the BAFTA Film Awards 2026 is no longer visible on the academy’s official social media accounts, prompting questions and criticism online.

Boong, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, became the first Indian film to win the Best Children and Family Film award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ceremony. During the live broadcast on the BBC on Sunday, Devi dedicated the award to Manipur.

In her acceptance speech, she described the state as “troubled, ignored, and very unrepresented” and expressed hope for peace to return. She also referred to internally displaced children, including young actors associated with the film.

The video of the speech, which was initially shared on BAFTA’s Instagram and X accounts, is currently not visible. Social media users, including Manipuri activist Binalakshmi Nepram, have sought clarification. In a post on X, Nepram questioned whether the speech had been removed and called for its restoration.

There has been no official explanation from BAFTA regarding the missing video. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the film’s team on X, describing the award as “a moment of immense joy, especially for Manipur.”

The removal of the speech video has led to ongoing online discussion about the incident and platform moderation.
