Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated the Saraighat Rana Smritisaudh, a memorial dedicated to the historic Battle of Saraighat, and laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the Brahmaputra Riverfront.
The memorial has been constructed in traditional Ahom dynasty architectural style and carries the engraved names of 132 warriors associated with the battle. According to officials, the structure has been developed to document and preserve historical records related to the battle and to serve as a resource for researchers and visitors.
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched Phase III of the Brahmaputra Riverfront development project. Officials stated that the new phase will include expansion of public spaces and recreational facilities along the riverfront.
Authorities said that upon completion, the expanded riverfront area is expected to function as a recreational space for residents and visitors.
