The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, and the Minister of Housing, PHE, and Soil Conservation, Marcuise N Marak, distributed cheques to beneficiaries of the Focus + and Green Meghalaya schemes on Monday at the District Sports Complex in Baghmara.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the development initiatives implemented in South Garo Hills District. He stated that while the district was previously considered one of the most neglected in the state, it has now become a preferred district under the NPP-led government. He added that over his eight-year tenure, Rs. 2,144 crore has been invested in infrastructure in South Garo Hills.
Sangma also outlined the government’s focus on rural livelihoods and environmental conservation through initiatives such as Focus +, CM Elevate, CM Homestay, Ginger Mission, Pineapple Mission, and Green Meghalaya +.
Minister Marcuise N Marak expressed appreciation for the Chief Minister’s leadership and encouraged beneficiaries to continue supporting development efforts and environmental conservation initiatives.
The program began with a welcome address by Sumit Kumar Singh IAS, Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills District. Beneficiaries of Focus + and Green Meghalaya shared their experiences, noting the positive impact of the schemes on their livelihoods and environmental protection efforts.
Under the program, a total of Rs. 2.15 crore was disbursed to 8,611 Focus + beneficiaries, and Rs. 1.73 crore was distributed to 92 Green Meghalaya beneficiaries in South Garo Hills District.
