Guwahati, Mar 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on March 13 and 14 to inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 10,000 crore and distribute land rights certificates (pattas) to members of the tea garden community, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday.

At a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma outlined the PM’s itinerary, which includes public meetings in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, and Silchar. “He will arrive in Kokrajhar first and dedicate several projects to the nation, including local initiatives where he will lay foundation stones or inaugurate them,” Sarma said.

On March 13, Modi will visit Guwahati to release an instalment of the Kisan Samman Nidhi. The visit will also include handing over the first land patta to a tea garden worker, marking the launch of a statewide programme. “The tea garden community has lived in Assam for 200 years without land rights. This will change now,” Sarma added.

On March 14, the PM will dedicate the 150 MW Kopili Hydro Power Project, completed by the state government, and lay the foundation stone for the Rs 22,000 crore Silchar-Shillong-Guwahati Express Highway during his visit to Silchar at 11 am. He will then depart for Kolkata after dedicating additional projects.

Separately, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Assam on March 15 to inaugurate Pragjyotishpur Medical College at 10 am and attend the BJP’s Yuva Sankalp Samavesh at Veterinary College Field, Khanapara, from 11 am. The event is expected to draw around one lakh youth workers, according to Assam BJP.

The visits come ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, as the BJP, led by CM Sarma, seeks a third term in the state.
