Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu Inaugurates National Seminar on Women’s Empowerment and Mental Well-Being at MBB College

Agartala, March 12, 2026: Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Thursday inaugurated a two-day national seminar on “Pressing Women’s Issues, Mental Well-Being and Empowerment: The Way Forward” at Maharaja Bir Bikram College in Agartala.

The inaugural programme began at 10:00 am in the presence of academicians, government officials, faculty members and students. The Governor attended the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the seminar aimed at promoting dialogue on gender equality and women’s mental well-being.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Deepa Ghosh, organising secretary and convenor of the Women’s Cell of the college, highlighted the importance of academic discussions on contemporary challenges faced by women. She emphasised the need for educational institutions to actively engage in issues related to women’s empowerment and mental health.

The event also featured the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp and felicitation of the dignitaries with saplings and traditional Risa, reflecting Tripura’s cultural heritage. Students of the college presented an inaugural song highlighting themes of resilience and empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion, Animesh Debbarma underlined the state government’s commitment to strengthening educational systems that support women’s progress and mental well-being.

Students also participated in the programme. Final-semester students Shagri Jamatia and Tanmoy Debnath shared their perspectives on gender equality and the role of youth in promoting empowerment.

The programme also included prize distribution for a poster competition organised as part of the seminar.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu praised the initiative of the college for organising a seminar on an issue of contemporary importance. He emphasised that women’s empowerment must go hand in hand with mental and emotional well-being and called for practical steps to address these challenges.

Later, the academic session was attended by Bibhas Deb as the guest of honour. The seminar also featured addresses by Sibnath Deb as special guest and keynote speaker Rekha Pande, who spoke on the historical context and future direction of the women’s movement in India.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Principal of MBB College, Dr. Arjun Gope.

The two-day seminar will include paper presentations and panel discussions focusing on women’s issues, empowerment strategies and mental well-being.
