The District Administration of Kangpokpi held the Quarterly District-Level Compliance Review Meeting to assess the implementation of directives issued by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Friday.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner N. Shokhongam Baite, MCS, who highlighted various road safety initiatives undertaken in the district. He urged officials concerned, along with the State Police Department and Central forces, to strengthen coordination in order to enhance frisking and helmet checking along the National Highway.
The ADM also directed officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and the National Highways Authority of India to jointly identify unsafe bridges, bridges requiring restoration and vulnerable stretches of PMGSY roads. They were instructed to submit a detailed report to the Deputy Commissioner in compliance with the standards set by the Indian Roads Congress.
District Transport officials presented relevant data during the meeting, while the ADM requested the District Police to provide additional information related to accidents, frisking and other road safety measures.
The ADM also sought clarification on the authority responsible for zebra crossings in the town. Officials informed that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of NHIDCL, following which the ADM asked the concerned authorities to take necessary action.
Among those present at the meeting were Lamminlal Simte, MCS, AC to DC; Len Singsit, MCS, SDO Island; Samuel Misao, MCS, SDO Lhungtin; along with other Sub-Divisional Officers and District Level Officers.
