Silchar, Mar 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the Congress party of acting as a “puppet” for forces opposed to India’s growth, asserting that the party is creating panic in the country while global conflicts continue.
Addressing a public gathering in Silchar, PM Modi highlighted his government’s efforts to protect citizens from the effects of international conflicts and economic disruptions. He said, “Conditions of war prevail around the world. Our government is doing everything possible to minimize hardships for our citizens.”
He criticized the Congress party for not taking national responsibility during this period, adding that the party is attempting to create panic to assign blame to his government. PM Modi further alleged that global entities opposed to India’s progress are influencing Congress.
The Prime Minister’s remarks followed the Bhoomi Pujan of the Shillong-Silchar Corridor, Northeast India’s first access-controlled Greenfield four-lane highway. The 166-km project, with an investment of Rs 22,860 crore, is expected to reduce travel time between Guwahati and Silchar from 8.5 hours to approximately five hours.
PM Modi also laid the foundation for an elevated corridor on NH-306 in Silchar and a new College of Agriculture at Patharkandi in Karimganj district, aimed at improving regional connectivity and agricultural education in Assam and Meghalaya.
