Dormonath Ch. Sangma has been elected as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council following the resignation of Albinush R. Marak.

According to sources, Sangma secured the support of a majority of Members of the District Council (MDCs) after 21 MDCs submitted a no-confidence motion against Marak’s leadership. Marak resigned shortly before a special session of the council was convened to discuss the motion.

Officials said the development cleared the way for the formation of a new executive committee under Sangma. Formal procedures to constitute the new body are currently underway during the council session being held in Shillong.

Meanwhile, Conrad K. Sangma congratulated Dormonath Ch. Sangma on his election as CEM of the GHADC. In a message, the chief minister extended his best wishes and said he hoped Sangma’s leadership would contribute to the welfare and progress of people in the region.
