Agartala, March 17, 2026: In a bid to strengthen rural livelihoods and promote scientific livestock practices, the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) has organized a two-day interstate exposure visit for pig farmers from the state.
The initiative, undertaken by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD), Government of Tripura, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of Livestock Producer Group (PG) beneficiaries. This exposure visit marks the second batch of such capacity-building programmes under TRESP.
A total of 21 piggery farmers from Gomati and South Tripura districts under the DPMU Gomati TRESP are participating in the programme. The visit, scheduled for March 16 and 17, is being held at the ICAR–National Research Centre on Pig (NRCP) at Rani in Assam—one of India’s premier institutions dedicated to pig research and development.
The participants began their journey from Tripura on March 15 and are expected to return on March 18 after completing the programme.
During the visit, farmers are interacting with scientists and experts at ICAR–NRCP and gaining hands-on exposure to modern pig farming technologies. Key focus areas include improved breeding techniques, scientific feeding management, disease prevention and control, feed formulation, and advanced farm management systems.
Officials said the programme is designed to enable farmers to adopt improved pig production practices, thereby enhancing productivity and ensuring sustainable income generation through livestock-based livelihoods.
The exposure visit has been facilitated by the PIU, ARDD, TRESP, with active support from livestock specialists of TRESP PMU, district and block-level officials, and the Technical Support Agency comprising JK Trust and EY.
The team is being accompanied by Dr. Litan Reang, Veterinary Officer of Veterinary Dispensary Karbook and implementing officer of the tour programme; Kinkar Bhowmik, District Programme Manager of Gomati DPMU, TRESP; Ajoy Bhaduri, Block Programme Manager, BPMU Karbook; and Dr. Kabuel Debbarma, Senior Technical expert from the Technical Support Agency (JK Trust & EY).
Dr. Nidhish Bharadwaj, Team Leader of the Technical Support Agency, was present at the airport to see off the team and guide the participants.
Officials noted that such initiatives under TRESP are playing a crucial role in empowering rural pig farmers by promoting scientific piggery practices and improving overall productivity in Tripura’s livestock sector.
