Guwahati, March 19: Prateek Bordoloi, son of Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi, has announced that he will not contest the upcoming assembly elections from Margherita on a Congress ticket.
In a letter addressed to Congress president and Central Election Committee chairman Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday, Prateek said it would not be appropriate for him to continue as a Congress candidate following his father’s decision to join the BJP. The letter was shared with reporters on Thursday.
“With utmost respect and a deep sense of responsibility towards the party, I wish to convey my decision to withdraw my candidacy from the Margherita Assembly Constituency,” he wrote, while affirming that he would remain a Congress member and continue to work for the party in any capacity deemed fit by its leadership.
His father, Pradyut Bordoloi, a Congressman for over five decades, resigned from the party on Tuesday and formally joined the BJP the next day.
