Assam: Army Neutralises Unexploded Ordnance Following ULFA(I) Attack In Tinsukia

Tinsukia, Mar 23: The Indian Army neutralized unexploded ordnance left behind following an attack by suspected ULFA(I) militants on an Assam Police Commando camp near Jagun in Tinsukia district in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred around 2:00 AM and resulted in injuries to at least four police personnel. Explosive remnants, including RPG and UBGL rounds, were found at the site, posing a risk to nearby civilians.

Army bomb disposal teams, including Red Shield Sappers, in coordination with Assam Rifles, secured the area and carried out disposal procedures following standard safety protocols. The unexploded ordnance was later defused at a designated safe location away from residential areas.

In an official statement, the Army said the operation was conducted with adherence to established procedures to prevent any harm to lives or property.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was in Haflong on Sunday, described the incident as condemnable. He stated that security forces have launched a counter-insurgency operation and that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.

A joint operation by the Army and Assam Police is ongoing in the area.
