Agartala, March 23, 2026: Political activity has intensified in North Tripura ahead of the by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, with the Bharatiya Janata Party stepping up its campaign on Monday. The party’s candidate, Jahar Chakraborty, formally filed his nomination papers amid a massive show of strength.

Chakraborty, accompanied by a large and well-organized procession, marched from the BJP office in Padmapur to the Returning Officer’s office in Dharmanagar. The rally witnessed a significant turnout of party workers and supporters, reflecting the party’s mobilization efforts ahead of the crucial by-poll.

Among those present were Rajib Bhattacharjee and several senior BJP leaders, who joined the procession and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects.

Party sources claimed that the scale of the BJP’s procession surpassed those earlier organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress, projecting it as a significant show of strength in the run-up to the election.

Notably, Chakraborty had earlier contested from the Dharmanagar constituency in 2013 as a BJP candidate but was unsuccessful. Despite the past setback, the party has once again fielded him, signalling renewed confidence in his candidature.
