Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation has strongly condemned fresh violence reported in Ukhrul district, alleging that suspected Kuki militant groups operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement carried out coordinated firing on Tuesday, March 24.
In a statement issued by its Central Working Committee, the organisation termed the situation a “grave concern,” claiming that armed groups opened fire from multiple locations since the previous night. The alleged firing points were identified along the Chassad–Kamjong axis, as well as in Shangkai and Mangkot Chepu areas.
The body alleged that Tangkhul Naga villages, including Kamjong, Sharkaphung and Thoyee, were targeted despite the presence of central security forces in the region.
Two civilians sustained injuries in the incident. According to the statement, Ringyui Ramror (around 30) and Raichan Lungleng (around 25), both residents of Sharkaphung village, suffered injuries to their legs and feet due to the firing.
Expressing concern over what it described as inaction by security forces, the organisation said the continued violence raises serious questions about the effectiveness and accountability of existing security mechanisms in maintaining law and order.
Calling the incidents a threat to peace and communal harmony, the organisation reiterated its earlier demands for enhanced security deployment. It recalled submitting a memorandum on February 21, 2026, seeking the upgradation of Litan Police Station to a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)-level facility and the deployment of additional forces in vulnerable areas.
The statement noted that only one platoon has so far been deployed at Sinakeithei village, with no action taken on other key demands, leaving several locations exposed.
Urging immediate intervention, the committee called on the state government to deploy adequate security forces in Thoyee and Sharkaphung villages to ensure civilian safety and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
