The Department of Economics & Statistics, Government of Manipur, organised an internal consultative workshop on “Using its Administrative Data for Governance” on at Directorate Auditorium in Lamphelpat.
The inaugural session was attended by Secretary (Economics & Statistics) Shri Joseph Pauline Kamson, IAS, Director Ms. Peijonna Kamei, and Joint Director Shri L. Ibo Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Kamson highlighted the growing importance of data in governance, noting that despite increased data generation across sectors such as health, education, and agriculture, its full potential remains underutilised due to issues like departmental silos, lack of standardisation, and limited interoperability.
The Director explained that the workshop aimed to gather feedback from line departments to build a shared understanding on administrative data linkage and address institutional and technical challenges. Inputs from the workshop will be forwarded to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) for a national-level summit on “Data for Development” scheduled in April 2026.
During the technical session, experts from the Directorate, MoSPI, KPMG, and CEGIS delivered presentations on administrative data linkage. Officials from various departments participated and offered suggestions to bridge existing data gaps.
