The first edition of the Indian Sailing League was inaugurated on Friday at the Umiam Water Sports Complex, officials confirmed. The event features 14 teams and international sailors from eight countries.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated that the league is a significant step in developing Umiam as a hub for tourism and water sports. He noted that the participation of the home team adds to the event’s appeal.

The Indian Sailing League is part of a long-term plan to enhance Umiam’s potential and promote Meghalaya as a destination for adventure tourism and international events. The Chief Minister emphasized that the initiative aligns with the state’s preparations for the National Games 2027 and ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and connectivity.
He added, “Meghalaya has arrived, and we are ready,” highlighting the state’s focus on tourism development and international sporting events.
