Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Friday said that the state government is making “all-out efforts” to ensure a fair and just census in the state.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 15th Convocation Ceremony of Manipur University, the Chief Minister addressed queries regarding the recent gazette notification on the upcoming census exercise.

“The government is trying its level best for a just and fair census,” he said, responding to concerns raised over the process.

The statement comes amid growing public demands for the identification of illegal immigrants, implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and proper resettlement of internally displaced persons ahead of the census. Many have also called for greater accuracy and transparency in the enumeration process.

According to a recent Manipur government gazette notification, house listing operations for Census 2027 will be conducted from September 1 to September 30, 2026.

The schedule aligns with the timeline set by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with preparatory enumeration activities planned between August 17 and August 31, 2026.

When asked whether the government would be able to address public concerns before the census begins, the Chief Minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to conducting the exercise in a fair and transparent manner.
