Guwahati, March 28: In a major organizational crackdown just two weeks before the April 9 Assembly elections, the BJP has expelled 15 leaders for six years following acts of rebellion and internal indiscipline.
State BJP President Dilip Saikia issued the expulsion orders on Friday night, targeting members who have either filed independent nominations against official party candidates or are accused of clandestine cooperation with rival political parties.
The most prominent disciplinary action was taken against nine leaders who are contesting as Independents after being denied party tickets. Invoking Clause XXV-9 of the party constitution, which allows for summary expulsion, the party dismissed Jayanta Kumar Das, a veteran ticket aspirant from the high-profile Dispur constituency who has been openly critical of the leadership.
Other expelled candidates include Uddhav Chandra Das and Gagan Chandra Haloi from Barpeta, Jitendrajit Goud from Kaliabor, Amalendu Das from Barkhola, Dhanjit Rabha from Goalpara West, Chakradhar Das from Bongaigaon, Ankur Das from Kamalpur, and Jashada Dulal Rakshit from Lumding.
In a parallel move, the BJP also terminated the primary membership of six additional leaders for acting against the party’s strategic interests. These members, primarily concentrated in the Kaliabor region, were identified as Gagan Chandra Mandal, Kishore Karmakar, Guru Prasad Upadhyay, Tushanta Kalita, Mani Hazarika, and Pinki Mirdha Chuna.
The leadership accused them of supporting opposition candidates and conducting backdoor negotiations, violating constitutional provisions that forbid propaganda against official party decisions.
