Agartala, March 30, 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led UPA government, alleging that it was marred by corruption, while asserting that the country is progressing steadily under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally at Kirtania Field on Satsang Ashram Road in Silchar ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, Dr. Saha expressed confidence that BJP candidate Rajdeep Roy would secure a decisive victory.
“The people of the country have immense trust and confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Development has gained momentum under his leadership, and I am certain that BJP candidate Dr. Rajdeep Roy will win with a massive mandate,” Dr. Saha said.
Highlighting Tripura’s political transformation, the Chief Minister recalled the end of the 35-year-long Left rule in the state. He said the change began after Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, which, according to him, paved the way for development and better governance in the region.
Dr. Saha also spoke about the historical and cultural ties between Silchar and Tripura, noting that the region once had connections with the Manikya dynasty and continues to share close emotional bonds with the state.
He further informed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are also expected to campaign in the area.
Criticizing the previous regimes, Dr. Saha alleged that both the UPA government at the Centre and earlier governments in Assam were plagued by corruption and instability. In contrast, he said, the current administration is committed to transparency and development.
Referring to the transformation of the Northeast, he said the region, once troubled by insecurity, is now witnessing rapid progress under the Centre’s “Act East Policy.” He also highlighted infrastructure growth in Tripura, including expansion of national highways, improved internet connectivity, and development of modern airport facilities.
The rally was attended by several BJP leaders, including MP Parimal Sukla Baidya, MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty and Nihar Kanti Das and other party karyakartas.
