Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam recorded a rise in visitors on Monday as the state prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections. Tourists from Assam and other parts of India are visiting to explore the park’s wildlife and natural landscapes.

The park, home to the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, continues to attract wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors are taking part in elephant and jeep safaris, observing rhinos and other animals in their natural habitat.

Harshal, a tourist from Maharashtra, said, “This is my first visit to Kaziranga. We went on an elephant safari in the morning and saw a rhino. Now we hope to spot a tiger.” Another visitor, Jahnavi, also from Maharashtra, said, “The experience is very good. We saw a rhino during the elephant safari and now are going for a jeep safari. The weather is favorable.”

Tourist guide Apurba Gogoi said the election has not affected tourism. “Tourist footfall is steady. Election and visitors to Kaziranga are happening simultaneously,” he said.

Mintu, a tourist from Guwahati, said, “Kaziranga is a popular tourist destination. Today we will also visit Orchid Park. Voting will be held on April 9, and we hope it proceeds peacefully.” Other tourists, including Ratan Debnath and Abdul Kadir, said they plan to enjoy the park while also taking part in the elections.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma noted the state government’s conservation efforts, stating, “Assam recorded not a single rhino poaching incident in Kaziranga in 2025 due to effective wildlife protection measures.”
