Golaghat, March 30: Assam Finance Minister and BJP candidate from Golaghat, Ajanta Neog, expressed confidence on Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to secure more seats in the upcoming Assembly elections than it did in 2021. She cited the state’s development initiatives and governance stability as key factors.
Neog stated that visible progress over the past five years has strengthened public trust in the government. She predicted high voter turnout, particularly among women, noting that initiatives such as Lakhpati Didi, self-help groups, and microfinance loan waivers may influence voting patterns.
Addressing opposition allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Neog said, “On May 4th, Congress will see the public’s true response.” She highlighted Assam’s budget growth from Rs 40,000 crore under the previous Congress government to Rs 1.5 lakh crore currently, and pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, flood mitigation measures, industrial development, and job creation.
Neog, who joined BJP from Congress in 2020 and has represented Golaghat since 2001, defended the NDA government’s performance, stating that voters now demand results rather than promises. She also called for increased participation of women in politics to promote inclusive governance.
In 2021, Neog defeated Congress candidate Bitupan Saikia by 9,325 votes (81,651 vs 72,326). The 126-seat Assam Assembly elections will see a contest between the BJP-led NDA and Congress, with the BJP aiming for a third consecutive term.
