The Chandel District Health Society on Tuesday launched the first round of National Deworming Day (NDD) 2026 at Model Residential School, Mantripantha village in Chandel district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Firoz Khan attended the programme as Chief Guest, while Hrangbung Starson Anal and Tungdar Maring were present as Guests of Honour. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joyson Matthew Monsang presided over the function.
In her keynote address, District Nodal Officer for Child Health Dr. Hrangbung Sally highlighted the objectives of the campaign and underscored the vital role of teachers and Anganwadi workers in its successful implementation. She said children aged 1 to 19 years across the district will be administered deworming tablets through Anganwadi centres, schools, and other institutions.
A mop-up round will be conducted within a week to cover childreny who miss the initial phase, she added
Dr. Sally also spoke on the harmful effects of parasitic worm infections, stressing the importance of hygiene, sanitation, and safe food and water practices.
The programme concluded with the distribution of Albendazole tablets to eligible students by the dignitaries, along with teachers and staff from the ICDS and Health Department, Chandel.
