Guwahati, Apr 2: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for promoting what he described as “politics of hatred” during a two-day visit to the state on Thursday. He expressed support for All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Badruddin Ajmal ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to ANI in Guwahati, Owaisi said, “I am here to back Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF. With Himanta Biswa Sarma as CM, hatred politics is rampant in Assam. Congress failed to stop BJP it’s because of them that Sarma and BJP are in power today.”
Owaisi alleged that over 50,000 Muslim homes have been demolished in Assam, leaving families homeless, and highlighted the need to support AIUDF to protect those affected.
Assam is set to hold elections for all 126 Assembly seats in a single phase on April 9, with results scheduled for May 4. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), allied with Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), is seeking a third term, while the Congress is attempting a resurgence.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Biswanath on Wednesday, criticized the Congress, calling it “the root of corruption in independent India” and accused the party of compromising Assam’s identity and security by accommodating illegal immigrants for political gains.
