Guwahati, April 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made sharp allegations against Sujata Gurung Chowdhury, the mother of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Kunki Chowdhury, who is contesting from Central Guwahati.

Sarma accused Sujata Gurung Chowdhury of supporting individuals like Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, both currently in jail. Imam had previously stirred controversy by calling for the separation of the Northeast from India.

The Chief Minister further alleged that Sujata Gurung Chowdhury is a “known beef eater,” claiming to have photographic evidence to back his statement. He said this showed disregard for the sentiments of Sanatani Assamese communities.

These remarks come in the midst of a heated election campaign, where personal attacks and allegations have intensified between rival parties.
