Agartala, April 02, 2026: The Tripura High Court has directed the State Government to submit a detailed report within three months specifying the measures adopted to curb infiltration in the state, in line with directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The direction was issued by a Division Bench while hearing a writ petition filed by Ranjit Debbarma.

According to court proceedings, the petition was filed by Ranjit Debbarma along with two other petitioners, alleging that despite clear instructions from the Union Home Ministry, effective action has not been taken in Tripura to prevent illegal infiltration.

Taking note of the matter, the Court asked the State Government to furnish a comprehensive report within the stipulated period, detailing steps undertaken to identify infiltrators, detain them, and initiate legal proceedings as per the directives of the Centre.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Ranjit Debbarma said preventing infiltration is crucial in the national interest. He pointed out that while several states have launched administrative drives to identify illegal infiltrators and repatriate them to their countries of origin following Central directives, similar measures have not been effectively enforced in Tripura.

He further stated that he was compelled to approach the High Court after repeated attempts to raise the issue through other channels failed to produce satisfactory outcomes.

Counsel appearing for the petitioners argued that the State Government has yet to fully implement the directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The petitioners also alleged that although several committees were constituted to monitor and prevent infiltration, their findings have not been made public.

The petition further expressed concern that infiltration along border areas continues unabated, a matter observers describe as serious from the standpoint of national security and sovereignty.
