Itanagar Municipal Corporation has directed all hotels and restaurants in Itanagar to remove references to specific animal meats, including pork, chicken, beef, and mutton, from their trade licences and signboards.
According to an official directive issued by IMC Joint Commissioner Datum Gadi, the use of explicit meat names in business identifiers has been termed “inappropriate,” citing concerns related to animal welfare norms and public sensitivities.
The directive invokes provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 2019, under which existing trade licences must be revised to reflect general business names. The order also states that no new licences mentioning specific types of meat will be issued.
Hotel and restaurant operators have been given a 10-day deadline to update signboards, banners, and licence details. The IMC has stated that action will be taken under relevant legal provisions in cases of non-compliance.
