The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, on Thursday observed World Autism Awareness Day 2026 under the theme “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value” at Kamal Hall, Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC), Imphal West.
The programme highlighted the importance of promoting awareness, early identification, and timely intervention for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that respects the dignity and potential of every individual.
The event was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma. Other dignitaries present included Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Prof. R. K. Lenin Singh, and Dr. Ch. Shyamsunder Singh.
During the programme, the Director and Medical Superintendent interacted with children and their parents, reaffirming the institute’s commitment to holistic care and sustained support for children with developmental challenges. Toys, snacks, and stationery items were also distributed to the children.
Officials informed that a total of 35 new cases have been identified and are currently under regular follow-up, including 30 boys and 5 girls.
The event was attended by senior officials, faculty members from multiple departments, members of the DEIC team, and representatives from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Office, Imphal West.
