Researchers have identified a new species of rove beetle in the forest ecosystems of Arunachal Pradesh, adding to the state’s diverse and largely unexplored wildlife.

The insect, belonging to the Staphylinidae family, is known for its ecological role as a predator and decomposer, contributing to maintaining balance in forest habitats. Rove beetles are typically found in moist, forested areas, where they support the decomposition process and help control other insect populations.

The discovery underscores the richness of Arunachal Pradesh’s natural landscapes and the importance of ongoing scientific studies in the region. Officials have emphasized the need to conserve the state’s fragile ecosystems, which continue to host numerous rare and undocumented species.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein noted on Friday that such findings highlight Arunachal Pradesh’s potential as a center for biodiversity research and the significance of preserving its forests.
