Manipuri Short Film “The Nightmare Of Bembi” Wins Global Accolades; CM Hails Achievement

The Manipuri short film “The Nightmare of Bembi”, directed by Tenzing Pukhrambam, has earned widespread international acclaim, securing multiple awards at prestigious film festivals and bringing recognition to the state’s growing film industry.

The film won the Best Psychological Drama (War Theme) award at the Indian Panorama International Film Festival 2025–26 in Mumbai. It was also adjudged Best Short Film at the Oceaniek Short Films Awards 2026 in Chandigarh. At the Jakarta Independent Cine Awards 2026 held in Guwahati, the film bagged several top honours, including Best Debut Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Music.

In addition, the film has received recognition at the Kodaikanal International Film Festival and the Athvikvaruni International Film Festival in Tamil Nadu.

Reacting to the achievement, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh congratulated the cast and crew, describing the success as a matter of immense pride for the state. In a Facebook post, he noted that the film’s Best Psychological Drama award highlights its powerful portrayal of the conflict situation and its human consequences.

The Chief Minister praised director Tenzing Pukhrambam for presenting a narrative marked by depth, sensitivity, and striking imagery. He said the film reflects the lived realities and stands as a courageous artistic expression that has resonated with audiences and juries worldwide.

The recognition, he added, underscores the creative excellence of Manipur’s film fraternity and reinforces the state’s growing presence on the global cinematic stage.
