Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika Outlines Jobs, Development Plans Ahead Of Assembly Elections

Guwahati, Apr 4 : Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika outlined several government initiatives and future targets in a recent statement.

Hazarika said that if the government returns to power, it aims to provide 2–2.5 lakh government jobs. Under the Mukhyamantri Atmanirbhar Scheme, around 1 lakh youths have already received Rs 2 lakh each, and the government plans to expand the scheme to 10 lakh youths, increasing the assistance amount to Rs 5 lakh per beneficiary.

He added that MoUs worth Rs 5.5 lakh crore were signed during Advantage Assam 2.0, while projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore are now underway. The minister also announced that 15 five-star hotels will be established in Guwahati, and the Jagiroad Semiconductor Project will provide employment to 29,000 local youths.

On education and health, Hazarika said the government has provided free textbooks to over 57 lakh students, distributed free bicycles to 10 lakh girl students, and offered financial assistance to nearly 4 lakh girls under the Nijut Moina Scheme. He also highlighted the launch of the Nijut Babu Scheme and the establishment of 16 medical colleges in Assam, with medical seats increasing from 726 to 1,850, and plans to further raise the number to 2,800 seats.

Regarding flood management, Hazarika stated that 1,000 km of new embankments have been built in the past five years, with another 120–150 km planned within the next 12–18 months, and a projected expenditure of Rs 18,000 crore, resulting in a 70% reduction in flooding in Assam.
