Guwahati, April 4: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi issued a scathing rebuttal to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, asserting that “nobody can eliminate Muslims” from the state despite the inflammatory rhetoric used during the current election cycle. Addressing a massive rally in the Chenga constituency, the Hyderabad MP came to the defense of the “Miya” community after the Chief Minister reportedly threatened to “break their backbone.”

The confrontation stems from recent campaign speeches where Sarma allegedly claimed that his government had “broken the hands and legs” of the Miya community—a term historically used for Bengali-speaking Muslims—and promised to “break their backbone” in a second term. Owaisi, campaigning for AIUDF candidate Ashraful Hussain, reminded the Chief Minister of the dignity required of his office, warning that such language was unbecoming of a state leader.

“I want to remind Sarma that you should use a language that befits a CM,” Owaisi told the cheering crowd. “Remember, if you have a voice, I have one too, and my words are capable of silencing yours. Muslims have lived in Assam for over 150 years. No one can destroy this presence. As long as this world exists, Muslims here will remain secure.”

The AIMIM leader further challenged the Chief Minister’s attempts at intimidation, daring him to name a location for a face-to-face encounter alongside AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal. Owaisi framed the government’s actions as an assault on the impoverished, warning that the “prayers of the oppressed” would lead to Sarma’s political downfall. He urged voters to consolidate behind AIUDF candidates to safeguard their constitutional rights and communal identity.
