Mangan, April 8: The Indian Army, in coordination with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the District Administration, has cleared the route along Dongkya La, enabling the safe evacuation of tourists from Lachen.
The operation is being conducted with support from Lachen Dzumsa, local leaders including Pipon Cho Bandhu Lachenpa and Khaisota Lachenpa, Chairperson of the Medicinal Plant Board, Sonam Gyatso Lachenpa, Chairperson of the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Sonam Norgay Lachungpa, and officers from the Tourism Department and Adventure Cell. Community organizations such as the Lachen Youth Development Committee, Lachen Drivers, TAAS, and the Lachen Hotel Association, along with local residents, are also assisting in the effort.
Tourists are being transported in batches along the route: Dongkya La – Shiv Mandir – Zero Point – Yumthang – Lachung, to ensure safe passage through the challenging terrain.
District Collector of Mangan, Anant Jain, SP Mangan LB Chettri, SDM Chungthang Arun Chettri, and SDPO Chungthang Chandan Chhetri were present on-site to oversee the evacuation process.
The coordinated response over the past two days highlights the role of local authorities, the Army, BRO, and community stakeholders in managing the situation and ensuring the safety of tourists.
