Gangtok, April 11: Senior officers of the Indian Army visited the landslide-affected Taramchu area in North Sikkim on Friday and reviewed ongoing restoration work on the Chungthang–Lachen road.
Heavy rainfall and landslides on April 5 caused damage to the Tarum Chu bridge, disrupting road connectivity and leaving more than 1,300 tourists stranded in the region. A total of 1,321 tourists were evacuated from Lachen on April 9 through coordinated efforts by the Indian Army, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), district administration, and the Lachen Dzumsa.
Additional Director General of the Border Roads Organisation (East), Jitendra Prasad, inspected the affected site, reviewed the progress of repair work, and directed teams to expedite restoration of the route.
The Chungthang–Lachen road is a key link for connectivity in North Sikkim, and repair efforts are currently underway by the Border Roads Organisation in coordination with the Indian Army and local authorities.
