Three Members of Parliament from Assam were among 16 newly elected or re-elected MPs who took oath in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
The oath was administered by Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan to members representing Bihar, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.
Among those sworn in were Nitin Nabin, Ram Nath Thakur, and senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi. A total of eight MPs are from the Bharatiya Janata Party, three from its allies, and five from the Indian National Congress.
Nitin Nabin, who resigned from the Bihar Assembly after being appointed BJP president, took oath in Hindi.
From Bihar, Ram Nath Thakur was re-elected, while Upendra Kushwaha of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha and Shivesh Kumar of the BJP also took oath.
The three MPs from Assam are Terash Gowalla and Jogen Mohan of the BJP, and Pramod Boro of the UPPL.
Other members who took oath include Laxmi Verma (BJP) and Phulo Devi Netam (Congress) from Chhattisgarh; Karamvir Singh Boudh (Congress) and Sanjay Bhatia (BJP) from Haryana; Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narendra Reddy (both Congress) from Telangana; Sujeet Kumar (BJP) from Odisha; and Anurag Sharma (Congress) from Himachal Pradesh.
